{"id":568,"date":"2013-08-31T19:06:49","date_gmt":"2013-08-31T19:06:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cocis.simmons.edu\/sites\/blog\/2013\/08\/31\/assistant_head_african_studies_library_boston_university_boston_ma\/"},"modified":"2013-08-31T19:06:49","modified_gmt":"2013-08-31T19:06:49","slug":"assistant_head_african_studies_library_boston_university_boston_ma","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cocis.simmons.edu\/sites\/blog\/2013\/08\/31\/assistant_head_african_studies_library_boston_university_boston_ma\/","title":{"rendered":"Assistant Head, African Studies Library, Boston University, Boston MA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Position Purpose\/Summary:<\/b> ?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Collaborate with the Head of the African Studies Library to develop policies and implement projects to achieve the collection and service objectives of this specialized library.<b><\/b><\/li>\n<li>Use web based scholarly resources, such as databases and journals to instruct and assist students and faculty in their research.<\/li>\n<li>Search and acquire materials published in Africa using sophisticated software systems for accounting, discovery, and fulfillment.<\/li>\n<li>Digitize key resources in the African Studies Collections for inclusion in BU&#8217;s institutional repository, a growing, open repository which showcases BU resources.<\/li>\n<li>Publicize to faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, the scholarly resources and services available through the BU Libraries.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Exceptional technology skills, experience with databases, analytical tools and computers.<\/li>\n<li>Proficiency with digitization equipment (e.g. scanners, digital cameras), software, and an understanding of file formats.?<\/li>\n<li>Outstanding customer service and communication skills with faculty, students, and staff.<\/li>\n<li>Highly proficient in the use of web-based scholarly resources such as databases, journals, digital collections, and bibliographic management tools.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to organize work, assess work priorities and effectively manage projects<\/li>\n<li>Ability to manage, coach, and train student workers in a collegial work environment.<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of French or Portuguese and\/or an African language highly desirable.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Education and Experience:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>B.A.\/B.S. required.<\/li>\n<li>Master&#8217;s degree in Library Sciences and\/or Africana preferred.?<\/li>\n<li>At least three years of experience in a public services role in an academic library, preferably in an African Studies Library.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>?<\/p>\n<p><b>Salary:<\/b>?
