The NPR Music Library provides production and reference services for NPR programs, and maintains Orpheus, NPR&#8217;s music asset management system.<\/p>\n<p>***Library internships at NPR are available only to information\/library students and recent grads.***<\/p>\n<p>Responsibilities:<br \/>Work under the supervision of NPR Librarians on a range of efforts that support business needs including:<br \/>indexing music that has been ingested into Orpheus,<br \/>assist in providing research services according to level of experience,<br \/>improving digital infrastructures and workflows through work on special projects.<\/p>\n<p>Qualifications:<br \/>In-depth knowledge of music gained through study, performance, or other experience.<br \/>Ability to balance attention to detail and accuracy with an understanding of &#8220;the big picture.&#8221;<br \/>Experience handling deadline pressure and establishing priority among competing demands.<br \/>Ability to work independently or collaboratively according to the demands of a project.<br \/>Ability to establish rapport quickly and easily with colleagues and clients.<br \/>Experience managing the expectations of others: excellent communication skills in person, in writing, and on the phone.<br \/>Passion for history, music, pop culture.<\/p>\n<p>Preferred Skills:<br \/>Demonstrated interest in managing digital resources, including approaches to managing metadata related to audio files.<br \/>Knowledge of digital file formats.<br \/>Content lifecycle management experience.<br \/>Familiarity with the programming languages of the web.<br \/>Experience providing reference services utilizing commercial databases, government resources, and features of the hidden web.<\/p>\n<p>Please submit a cover letter discussing these qualifications for consideration.<\/p>\n<p>Before applying, we strongly encourage you to read our Internship FAQ&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/about\/careers\/Frequently%20Asked%20Questions,%20intern%20website.doc\">here<\/a>.
