The single was released in 1961. “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” was composed by Henry Mancini and “Moon River” was written and composed by Henry Mancini and Johnny Mercer. “Moon River” reached number 11 on the US Billboard charts in 1961.
Henry Mancini (April 16, 1924 – June 14, 1994) was born Enrico Nicola Mancini in Cleveland, Ohio. He is an American composer, songwriter, arranger, conductor, pianist and flautist. Mancini is considered one of the greatest composers in the history of film winning four academy awards, a Golden Globe and twenty Grammy awards.
Breakfast at Tiffany’s is a 1961 motion picture release from Paramount Pictures. It was based on the 1958 novella by Truman Capote. The film was directed by Blake Edwards, written for the screen by George Axelrod and starred Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly and George Peppard. At the 34th Academy Awards, Hepburn was nominated for Best Actress, and the film was nominated for Best Production Design, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Score, and Best Original Song for “Moon River”. The nominations were won for Best Original Score and Best Original Song.
