Objects
On this page are images of a few of the various object statues throughout the Palace Museum. Each of the objects was beautiful and ornate but practical for everyday use within the palace.

Cistern
Cisterns were used to hold water for the city. This one is located outside of the Meridian Gate and has a matching cistern on the other side of the gate, creating an elaborate entrance to the palace within. These were larger ones compared to the cisterns found throughout the Museum.

Sundial
The marble sundial is located outside of the Palace of Heavenly Purity. Originally, it was the Emperor's residence but eventually transitioned into a place to conduct government business and hold special celebrations.

Phoenix, Crane, & Cistern
While this image has three sculptures, the focus for this is the cistern. Smaller bronze cisterns like this were found outside many of the smaller palaces throughout the Museum.

Incense Burner
Bronze incense burners are found throughout the palace grounds near entrances to palaces. The use of incense was for timekeeping, prayer, medicine, and as art.
